Highlight: Isaac’s Journey and a Powerful Partnership

This week, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on Isaac, one of our incredible program participants, and the outstanding partnership we’ve built with his employer: Journey Beyond.

Journey Beyond is one of Australia’s leading experiential tourism operators, with 18 brands spanning the country — from iconic rail journeys like The Ghan and Indian Pacific, to small-group outback touring with Outback Spirit and immersive wildlife stays at Monarto Safari Resort. Recently, Journey Beyond has become a valued partner in creating inclusive employment.

Isaac secured a role at Journey Beyond’s North Terrace office café, where he is now employed on a paid basis and a valued member of the team. Importantly, he receives equal pay for equal work, just like any other team member. What makes this partnership so successful is the collaborative support model: Isaac works alongside one of our experienced Local Heart Community Pty Ltd mentors, who is embedded within the café environment.

The mentor provides day-to-day support not just to Isaac, but also to the Journey Beyond team—offering guidance, answering questions, and helping foster a culture of inclusion. This co-working model ensures that Isaac has the confidence and structure he needs to thrive, while also giving Journey Beyond the opportunity to learn, adapt, and grow in their inclusive practices.

The Journey Beyond team has embraced the model wholeheartedly. They’ve shown real commitment to building a workplace where everyone is valued, supported, and encouraged to succeed. This isn’t about creating a separate space—it’s about making existing workplaces more accessible and inclusive, with the right support in place.
